The great ones aren’t great because they were born that way.  They are great because they have seen the task before them many thousands of times.  Whether hitting a major league fastball, an approach shot at Augusta, or a 120-mph tennis serve, the great players flawlessly accomplish their jobs because their experience leads to incredibly quick decision making about the best way to succeed.  This applies to mathematicians, business executives, lawyers, and every field where top-level success is determined by how quickly you can properly decide the best course of action.

Surprisingly, the number one key to success is actually knowing that achieving your Big Goal is possible.  This takes your dream out of the world of fantasy.  It is the fuel that powers your journey along the path to success.  You wouldn’t begin the long, difficult journey to become an expert if you didn’t know that becoming an expert was possible.  This requires knowing that others have achieved the success you seek.

There’s no magic that makes someone successful.  It’s due to hard work and knowing that the hard work will lead to success.  You will need coaches and mentors on your journey to becoming a sports expert.  They will lead you along the Path to Success.  The most trusted ones are those who have reached the end of the path and are experts themselves.
